Meet a Freshman Studies Student
We sat down for a Q&A with Ole Miss Freshman Studies student, Leah Hollingsworth, to find out more about her experience as a UM student.
Why did you choose Ole Miss?
I’m from a small town, so I’m used to an environment where everyone knows everyone. Ole Miss offered the SEC school experience, and Oxford offered the community feel that I was used to. For me, it was the best of both worlds.
Describe your journey to selecting a major.
Coming into college, I was very unsure about what I wanted to major in. I was a freshman studies major for the entirety of my freshman year, and as a result, I had advisors who helped me pursue my interests without getting behind on my degree. I’ve always been curious about psychology, so my advisor encouraged me to take a general psychology class. I immediately fell in love with the subject and decided to major in it so that I could study it for the rest of my time at Ole Miss. Because I am going into health professions, I also added a biological sciences minor.
What helped you finally decide on a major?
I had an amazing experience in my general psychology class. My professor was extremely passionate about everything he taught, and he made the subject so fun! I was so excited to learn more that I decided to major in psychology.
What is your favorite place on campus?
My favorite place on campus is the Union! It has so many meal options and plenty of space to spread out and study!
